After hearing Pantone’s announcement of their colours of the year, you might be thinking about bringing them into your new kitchen design. Here are a few tips from our kitchen design experts to help you make the most of the two contrasting shades.

1. Use two colours in your kitchen design

Most of the time, we tend to select one finish for kitchen cabinet fronts. But following Pantone’s statement that Ultimate Grey and Illuminating Yellow are “two independent colours that highlight how different elements come together to support one another”, you might be better off combining both colours.

Stuart Dance, Director at InHouse Inspired Room Design, says, “Yellow is a bold colour to use in the kitchen. Pairing a bright colour with a more neutral tone is a tried and tested way to illuminate a space, without it feeling over the top. Ultimate Grey is a classic tone that certainly evokes calm and resilience.”

Get bold and playful by bringing yellow into your kitchen while pairing it with a neutral grey or brown.

2. Colour your kitchen cabinets with

an accent

Yellow is a bright and zingy colour. It brightens our homes, and it brightens our moods. However, it can be a little overwhelming for some people. If that’s you, incorporate subtle accents through furniture and ornaments to add a hint of zest to kick start every day without the drama.

It is also worth considering slightly deeper Olive tones that are a tad more subtle. Curate your kitchen with tasteful accents of grey and olive yellow for a sophisticated and contemporary feel.

3. Add texture to your kitchen surfaces

After almost a year of daily walks in our local areas this year, many of us have developed an even greater affection for nature. It is no surprise that we are yearning to bring hints of nature into our homes.

Earthy tones and textures inspired by the rock forms have the ability to draw the outside in, while incorporating colours that are bang on trend. Bring contemporary greys into the kitchen while introducing an element of nature with lavish marble and granite finishes.

4. Keep your kitchen design sleek and simple

As stated by Pantone, “Ultimate Grey is emblematic of solid and dependable elements which are everlasting and provide a firm foundation.”

Sometimes the ultimate pleasure comes from making life as simple as possible. After all the chaos over the past 12 months, we’re expecting to see a steady demand for gentle grey palettes to create calm and tranquil kitchens.
