Aster Kitchens

Timeline

The new Timeline signature kitchen system from Aster Cucine is in collaboration with New York City-based design firm workshop/APD, draws upon the history of craftsmanship and artisanship in centuries past, to create a kitchen collection with a ‘vintage’ look and feel for contemporary life. Fads come and go, but the culture remains. The fashion pendulum swings so quickly that it is often hard to keep up, whilst we have tremendous nostalgia for the past we live in the present and are accustomed to the conveniences of modern life. Kitchens are now part of our living environments and no longer hidden from view. For the Timeline kitchen system, Matthew Berman and Andrew Kitchen, design principals at Workshop/APD, took inspiration from historically familiar but unconventional textures and finishes for a modern kitchen. The Timeline collection features exquisite cabinetry, countertops and backsplash accents in the finest selection of materials including Venetian ceruse (a whitening compound used in the 16th century on human skin as well as cabinetry) applied to white oak; wire mesh inspired by French country cabinets, antique mirror glass, oxidized metal, weathered steel and bronzed glass.

New York loves the eclectic buildings that use the past to create presentations, so Aster Cucine and Workshop/apd are the perfect unions. Both have a passion for innovation, contemporary design and taking the craftsmanship of the past and combining with contemporary living.

“I believe so fundamentally that design is inextricably linked to our happiness,” says Workshop/apd’s Matthew Berman. “Design creates culture. Culture shapes values. Value determines the future.”

TIMELINE can also be ‘personalised’ with art panels by famed Toronto artist Murray Duncan. Duncan’s philosophy is that art must not be constrained by conventional applications and there exist limitless possibilities for expression.
